[Scientific Journal Cover design] Turbostratic nanoporous carbon sheet membrane for ultrafast and selective nanofiltration in viscous green solvents

Scientific Journal Cover design

The development of ultrafast and selective nanofiltration membranes for viscous green solvents like isopropyl alcohol (IPA) is crucial for the chemical, food, and pharmaceutical industries. Traditional nanofiltration membranes have struggled with low solvent permeance and selectivity due to their narrow channel structures and strong interactions with viscous solvents. In a breakthrough, a turbostratic nanoporous carbon sheet membrane, created through rapid thermal treatment of graphene oxide, has significantly improved nanofiltration performance. This innovative membrane achieves sharp separation of molecules smaller than 600 Da from larger ones, with an ultrafast IPA permeance of ~1800 L m−2 h−1 bar−1 (LMH bar−1). This performance surpasses existing membranes by two orders of magnitude, maintaining high rejection rates for sub-nanometer-sized molecules.-Scientific Journal cover design by scapiens
