Won Jong Kim and his team have developed a reinforced natural killer (ReNK) system that uses the formation of NK–tumor cell immunological synapses (IS) to trigger the delivery of tumor-specific chemotherapeutics. By decorating NK cells with an IS environment-responsive micellar system, the drug is released precisely when the NK cells attack cancer cells. This innovative strategy allows NK cells to effectively inhibit the growth of solid tumors by ensuring efficient drug penetration into the tumor tissue, overcoming the barrier posed by the dense extracellular matrix.-Scientific Journal cover design by scapiens
