[Scientific Journal cover art] An ultra-lithiophilic oxidation layer in a Ni-foam-based anode for lithium metal batteries

Scientific Journal cover art

High-energy-density rechargeable batteries, crucial for renewable energy, often face challenges with lithium-infused anodes due to poor cycling and dimensional stability. To address this, improving the wettability of lithium (Li) on battery materials is essential. In this study, we present a simple oxidation method to create a lithiophilic NiO layer on 3D nickel foam. The oxidized Ni foam significantly improved the wettability of molten Li, reducing the wetting angle from 120° to 0°. This enhanced performance, with no dendrite formation or short circuits after 1000 cycles, makes this method highly practical for lithium-metal battery technology.-Scientific Journal cover art design by scapiens
