Yong-Mook Kang, Seong-Ju Hwang, and their team have synthesized holey 2D nanosheets of low-valent Mn2O3. These nanosheets exhibit excellent performance as electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction and as electrodes for Li-O2 batteries. The enhanced functionality is due to the improved diffusion of reactant and product species through surface holes and the increased electrocatalytic activity of coordinatively-unsaturated surface reaction sites. / Journal cover design by Scapiens
