Mild hydrodeoxygenation of phenolic lignin model compounds over a FeReOx/ZrO2 catalyst: zirconia and rhenium oxide as efficient dehydration promoters

Developing an efficient catalyst for hydrodeoxygenation (HDO) of lignin-derived phenolics under mild conditions has been a challenge due to strong adsorption on zeolite acid sites. Our research found that the novel catalyst FeReOx/ZrO2 exhibits high HDO efficiency at atmospheric pressure and temperatures as low as 250 °C, outperforming traditional zeolite-supported catalysts. This catalyst significantly enhances BTX aromatic production, making it a promising solution for biofuel conversion.
