Chae-Ok Yun, Yeu-Chun Kim, and their team have developed a novel cancer treatment using endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress-mediated immunogenic cell death (ICD) induced by fluorinated mitochondria-disrupting helical polypeptides (MDHPs). These polypeptides destabilize the mitochondrial membrane, leading to increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and subsequent ICD. When combined with anti-Programmed death-ligand 1 antibodies (αPD-L1), which block PD-L1 on tumor cells, this treatment significantly reduces tumor growth by activating cytotoxic T cells.-Scientific Journal cover art design by scapiens
