[Science Journal cover design] Cover Feature: Highly Selective Catalytic Dechlorination of Dichloromethane to Chloromethane over Al−Ti Mixed Oxide Catalysts (ChemCatChem 20/2020)

Science Journal cover design

The cover feature highlights the selective dechlorination of dichloromethane (CH2Cl2) to chloromethane (CH3Cl) using a mixed oxide catalyst in the presence of water. This process, investigated by W. Yoon et al., focuses on achieving high production yields of chloromethane, a valuable intermediate in the chemical industry. Their study revealed that Al-Ti mixed oxides with various Al/Ti ratios serve as effective catalysts for this reaction. The enhanced catalytic performance is attributed to the strong and abundant Lewis acid sites generated by Al-O-Ti bonds in the optimal Al-Ti mixed oxide. These findings suggest that mixed oxide systems could be excellent candidates for the effective catalytic dechlorination of polychlorinated products. More details can be found in the Full Paper by W.
