A novel enantioselective 1,2-addition reaction has been developed to synthesize highly optically active β-amino alcohols. By employing a chiral oxazaborolidinium ion catalyst and a photosensitizer, α-aminoalkyl radicals are added to α,β-unsaturated or aromatic aldehydes. This method yields the desired β-amino allylic or benzylic alcohols with high efficiency, achieving yields of up to 99% and enantioselectivities of up to 98% ee.-Scientific Journal cover design by scapiens
