[Science Journal Cover design] Controlled Synthesis of Nanocrystalline Nb:SrTiO3 Electron Transport Layers for Robust Interfaces and Stable High Photovoltaic Energy Conversion Efficiency in Perovskite Halide Solar Cells

Science Journal Cover design

Perovskite halides are highly attractive for their efficient light absorption in solid-state solar cells, yet their stability and energy conversion efficiency are often hampered by interface defects with electron transport layers (ETLs). We have identified the mechanism behind ultraviolet (UV) light-induced degradation at the interfaces between perovskite halides and conventional TiO2 ETLs. The degradation is due to the formation of oxygen vacancies, which accelerate perovskite decomposition. However, we found that nanocrystalline SrTiO3 (STO) ETLs, especially when doped with Nb and treated to remove SrO phases, offer a robust solution. These STO ETLs enhance interface stability and efficiency under UV light, eliminating hysteresis due to low defect concentrations.-Journal cover design by scapiens
