Researchers have successfully grown two-dimensional MoX2 (X = S, Se) films vertically on rough transparent conducting F-doped SnO2 glass substrates for the first time, using them as photogenerated carrier-guiding layers (CGLs) in transparent hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si) thin film solar cells (TFSCs). Notably, MoSe2 CGL layers grown at 530°C on transparent FTO glass substrates significantly improved cell performance. A transparent cell with a 20 nm-thick MoSe2 CGL transmitted 26.0% of visible light and achieved an outstanding power conversion efficiency of 27.1% under indoor light conditions (0.16 mW cm–2, 500 lx). The TFSCs also exhibited a shunt resistance (Rsh) of 32,000 Ω at 7 mW cm–2, crucial for low-light PV devices to prevent carrier dissipation. These findings suggest that transparent a-Siwith vertically grown MoX2 films have great potential for use in building-integrated PV windows or indoor PV applications, generating power even in very low-light environments.-Journal cover design by scapiens
