Chong S. Yoon, Yang-Kook Sun, and their co-workers have demonstrated that the CSG90 cathode for high-energy lithium-ion batteries can dissipate the internal strains caused by the harmful H2 ↔ H3 phase transition in Ni-enriched NCM cathodes during deep charging. This significantly enhances cycle performance and thermochemical stability. By partitioning cathode particles and optimizing their microstructural response to internal strain, this research paves the way for the rational design and development of multi-functional cathodes, particularly Ni-rich NCM cathodes.-Scientific Journal cover design by scapiens
