Organometal Halide Perovskite Solar Cells with Improved Thermal Stability via Grain Boundary Passivation Using a Molecular Additive

Kilwon Cho and his team have shown that PCBM molecules chemically passivate the grain boundaries of organometal halide perovskite crystals. This chemical passivation prevents halogens at the crystal boundaries from escaping, thus reducing thermal degradation. This advance in tuning perovskite grain boundaries with additives moves us closer to the practical use of perovskite solar cells.
